Maurizio and Salvina's latest adventure in Sicily is a leap into the baroque beauty of the island's southeast, towards a dream destination: Donnafugata Castle.
"We read about it on your blog months ago," Salvina tells us as soon as we get in the car, "and now that we're almost at the end of our trip, we absolutely want to see it live."
"And then," Maurizio adds, "in the car with you, even the journey is part of the pleasure. Fresh air, relaxing drive, and no worries. What more could we want?"
❄️ Comfort, elegance, and freedom: the strength of our chauffeur service.
As the car leaves Taormina behind and heads south, the landscape changes color. Rocky coasts transform into golden expanses, olive groves and almond trees dance in the warm midday wind, and every bend offers a new glimpse of Sicily.
The journey, though long, proves pleasant. Perfect air conditioning, background music, and the safety of an experienced driver make everything fluid and harmonious. For Maurizio and Salvina, who seek magic and not stress, it's the perfect way to travel.
Donnafugata Castle: A Fairytale in the Ragusa Countryside
After a few hours of travel, there it is: Donnafugata Castle stands on the horizon like a mirage. Its white facade, elegant and somewhat dreamlike, rises among the trees as if straight out of a nineteenth-century novel.

"It doesn't even seem real," Salvina whispers as she gets out of the car.
Maurizio is immediately captivated by the architectural details: "It looks more like a noble residence than a defensive castle."
Indeed, Donnafugata Castle was not built for military purposes. Its origins are lost in time, but it was in the 19th century that it took on its current appearance thanks to the Arezzo family, who transformed it into a sumptuous residence.
Crossing the threshold, you enter a world of splendor and stories suspended in time. Over 120 rooms, many of which can be visited, tell the life of the Sicilian aristocracy. The Hall of Arms, the Hall of Mirrors, the Billiards Room, and the Music Room... each environment preserves frescoes, period furniture, and curiosities.
A Labyrinth of Stone and Dreams
"It's not a dream without a garden," our driver says with a smile, inviting our guests to continue towards the park.

The garden of Donnafugata Castle is a true botanical masterpiece. Inside, there are exotic plants, large terracotta vases, fountains, artificial grottoes, and even a dome with the sky painted inside.
"And this labyrinth?" Maurizio asks curiously.
"It's one of the few stone labyrinths remaining in Italy," explains the site guide. "It was used to entertain guests, but also for court games and moments of reflection."
Walking through those paths is like entering a dream. Salvina loses herself photographing every corner, every detail. Maurizio, on the other hand, often stops to admire the statues and architectural perspectives that open up among the trees.
Stories, Legends, and Mysteries
The name Donnafugata is shrouded in mystery. Some derive it from the Arabic “Ayn al-Hasan” (Source of Beauty), others from a legend according to which Queen Bianca of Navarre was held prisoner here by a cruel baron and then managed to escape: “The escaped woman,” indeed.
"Whether it's true or not," Salvina says as she looks out from a terrace, "this place has something magical. It seems made for stories."
Maurizio nods. "And we are happy to have experienced it without the worry of finding parking or driving under the sun."
A Slow Return to Taormina
After also visiting the small museum inside the castle and enjoying a typical lunch nearby, it's time to return. The road to Taormina unfolds under a sky that is turning pink.
In the relaxed silence of the car, Maurizio and Salvina exchange few words, but their smiles and knowing glances say it all: it was another perfect day.
