An Itinerary of Architectural Wonders and Unforgettable Flavors
Massimo and Valeria, by now captivated by the beauty of Sicily, asked us to continue the tour toward two destinations famous worldwide for their Baroque elegance and deep history: Scicli and Modica.
We depart from Taormina early in the morning, traveling in total comfort thanks to our private chauffeur service in Sicily. The air-conditioned car, comfortable seats, and the opportunity to enjoy the landscape without worrying about the road make the journey a pleasure, not an obstacle.
🚘 Scicli and Modica by Private Driver: Between Baroque and Chocolate
Scicli: An Open-Air Baroque Living Room
We first arrive in Scicli, nestled among the hills and dominated by three valleys that meet in the heart of the historic center. The city is so fascinating that it has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
"It looks like a living nativity scene," Valeria whispers as we cross Via Francesco Mormino Penna, the pulsing heart of the city.
We stroll among majestic churches like San Giovanni Evangelista, with the famous statue of Christ on the Cross, and the Church of Santa Teresa, embraced by the golden stone that reflects the sun, offering a warm and intense light.
But it’s not just about art: Scicli is also famous as one of the main filming locations for the TV series "Inspector Montalbano". The Town Hall is, in fact, the headquarters of the fictional police station. "Massimo, look! That’s exactly where Montalbano received his cases!" Valeria exclaims.
After a coffee in the central square, we set off again: heading toward Modica, just 15 km from here.
Modica: The City of a Hundred Churches and Chocolate
In Modica, the first thing that strikes you is the dramatic staircase leading to the Cathedral of San Giorgio. A true piece of urban art. Climbing the steps, you enjoy a breathtaking view of the ancient city, built on two levels and divided by a natural rift in the rock.
But Modica is also world-famous for its artisanal chocolate, still made according to the ancient Aztec recipe brought here by the Spaniards in the 16th century.
We stop at one of the ancient chocolate shops, where Massimo and Valeria taste chocolate with chili pepper, cinnamon, and sea salt.
"It’s rustic, you can feel the crunchiness of the sugar… it has nothing to do with industrial chocolate!" Massimo comments, surprised.
We then continue the visit to the Church of San Pietro, the Castle of the Counts, and the charming narrow streets filled with artisan workshops and picturesque views.
Our driver remains at your disposal, ready to resume the journey without haste, adapting to our travelers' pace. This is the true beauty of hiring a car with a private driver: maximum freedom, zero stress.
The Return? Always Relaxing
After a light dinner among the alleys of Modica Alta, we head back to Taormina under the soft lights of sunset. The car runs silently, and thoughts are filled with beauty.
Massimo looks at us and says: "Today I understood why people say Sicily is an open-air museum."
And we can only smile, knowing that with our chauffeur service, every day can become a small masterpiece.
