From the Peaks of the Nebrodi to the Sea of Capo d'Orlando: A Journey Through Nature and Wonder with Ciro and Annamaria

Sicily is an island of a thousand faces. After the imposing Mount Etna, today it's the turn of another enchanted corner: the Nebrodi Mountains, a land of woods, ancient rocks, enchanted landscapes and villages that seem to come out of a fairy tale book. It's still dark when we meet in front of the hotel in Catania.

The air is fresh, and the light of dawn is just beginning to gild the roofs of the city.

Ciro is already ready, with his inseparable reflex camera around his neck.

"I read that in the Nebrodi there are landscapes that look like Switzerland," he says, excited.

"But with the sun of Sicily!" replies Annamaria, wrapped in a light jacket. "Today we want to get lost in nature."

"Get lost yes, but with style," jokes our driver, opening with a theatrical gesture the door of the black Mercedes, ready for a new day of discoveries.

"And without stress," adds Ciro, settling in. "Only you know how to make us travel like this, without worrying about anything."

We leave with our Car with Driver Towards Montalbano Elicona

We leave Catania behind as the morning traffic picks up. The driver takes a panoramic road that gently climbs towards the hinterland, through green fields, expanses of olive trees and small perched villages. The conversation in the car is light, accompanied by classical music that spreads in the background.

The first destination is Montalbano Elicona, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, nestled at almost a thousand meters above sea level, surrounded by the peaks of the Nebrodi. As we get closer, the vegetation thickens. The beeches give way to the chestnut trees, and here and there appear rocks sculpted by the wind, which seem to hold ancient secrets.

"But look at this landscape," murmurs Annamaria. "I didn't expect it to be so green, so silent."

The road winds through the hills and gives us spectacular views. The low clouds caress the reliefs, while flocks of sheep graze peacefully along the slopes.

When we arrive in Montalbano Elicona, it seems like entering a world suspended in time. The stone alleys, the medieval houses leaning against each other, and at the top the majestic Swabian-Aragonese Castle, welcome us.

We get off calmly, leaving the car comfortably parked thanks to our driver, who waits for us patiently.

A walk in the village

We walk through the narrow cobbled streets, with the scent of wood burning in the fireplaces and the silence broken only by the singing of birds. At the castle, the view is priceless: the horizon opens onto the valleys and, in the distance, you can even see the sea.

"This is a dream," says Ciro, while taking a photo of the tower. "You won't find a village like this in any tourist guide. Or rather... you only find it if you have someone who takes you to the right place."

"And who drives with style," adds Annamaria, giving a grateful look to our driver.

We make a stop in a small bar in the center to savor an almond granita, served as tradition dictates with brioche.

The bartender recognizes us as tourists and tells us about the Malabotta Wood, a few kilometers from the center, where the famous megaliths of the Argimusco are located — enormous rocks arranged in a mysterious way that many compare to Stonehenge.

"Shall we go?" proposes Annamaria.

"Of course!" replies the driver. "With Sicily Car Service, every interesting detour becomes part of the journey."

The Argimusco: the oldest Sicily

We resume the march towards this magical place. The road is narrow and winds through the pastures, but the car with driver guarantees us tranquility and comfort. When we arrive at the Argimusco, the landscape leaves us breathless. The cyclopean rocks stand out against the clear sky, arranged in a dance of natural and symbolic forms.

The Argimusco: the oldest Sicily

"It seems that these stones tell an ancient story," whispers Ciro, while walking slowly among the stone figures.

"Some say they are prehistoric places of worship, others speak of mysterious energies," explains the driver. "But one thing is certain: you can breathe something unique here."

Sitting on a rock, we observe in silence the infinity of the Nebrodi. The surrounding nature is wild and pure, and time seems to slow down.

Descent towards the sea: destination Capo d'Orlando

We leave the plateau with our hearts full of emotions, ready to completely change scenery. From here, the road begins to descend northwards, crossing woods and valleys. The landscapes change again: the trees thin out, and the air becomes more humid and salty.

Annamaria stretches on the seat: "How nice it is not to have to think about anything. You relax, look at the view... and in the meantime you arrive!"

Our driver gently accompanies us to the Tyrrhenian coast. Suddenly, the sea appears on the horizon, blue and sparkling under the afternoon sun.

"We have arrived," he says with a smile. "Welcome to Capo d'Orlando."

A dip between golden sand and the scent of the sea

Capo d'Orlando welcomes us with its discreet elegance and the scent of salt air. Its beaches are long, golden, bathed by a transparent sea that invites tranquility.

We walk along the Andrea Doria promenade, with our gaze turned to the Aeolian Islands, visible in the distance as floating silhouettes.

"I would like to stop time," says Annamaria.

"Or come back every year," proposes Ciro.

We stop for a late lunch in a restaurant with a sea view. The menu is a hymn to local cuisine: seared tuna, caponata, swordfish rolls, accompanied by a glass of white wine from the Messina hills.

The sun begins to set and colors everything amber. Our driver awaits us with discretion, ready to take us back to Catania in maximum comfort.

Reflections at sunset

During the return journey, the two friends fall asleep for a few minutes, lulled by the road and the soft music in the car. They wake up shortly before returning to the city, with their eyes full of images and their hearts light.

"Thank you," says Ciro. "For everything."

"Traveling like this is a luxury, but it's also a gift you give yourself," adds Annamaria. "It's not just comfort. It's quality of time."
